Raw materials: JACKWIN uses high-density HDPE granules as our raw materials and adds colorants to the raw materials to make the snow fence brightly colored.

Extrusion Process: The plastic granules are heated until melted, and the molten plastic is then extruded into a mesh shape using a molding machine.

Cooling: The cooling process imparts the mesh with both the rigidity needed for long-term durability and the flexibility required for easy installation

Rolling: The finished snow fences are rolled into compact rolls for easy transport and storage.

How Snow Fence Works

How Snow Fence Works?

How can JACKWIN snow fences with mesh openings “block” snow? Let’s explore its basic principles together.

When winds carrying snow blow from upwind, they are forced to pass through the gaps in the fence.

As the wind hits the fence, its speed decreases, and the floating snow particles fall with the wind, forming snowdrifts behind the fence.

These fences not only keep the road clean but also improve visibility and ensure driving safety.

How to Install Snow Fence?

Step 1: According to the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP), the fence should be 35 times its height from the road. If your fence is 6 feet high, it should be installed 210 feet upwind of the driveway.

Step 2: Place a T-post every 5-7 feet in a zigzag pattern. (In strong winds, the T-posts need to be spaced closer together). Drive the posts as deep as possible into the ground (at least 1.5 feet) to ensure they remain sturdy even in strong winds.

Step 3: Secure the plastic snow fence to the T-posts using cable ties. For added stability, you can use wooden slats to hold it in place. Leave at least a 5-inch gap between the snow fence and the ground to allow strong winds to pass through.

Please have cable ties, gloves, and T-posts handy when installing snow fences. For more information about T-posts, please contact us.

Applications

JACKWIN snow fences are applied for various occasions as follows:

How far should snow fence be from driveway?

The fence should be 35 times its own height from the driveway and positioned upwind of the protected area. A 10-foot-high fence should be installed 350 feet from the driveway.

Does a snow fence really work?

Yes, it did work. Although the snow fence has mesh holes everywhere, this slows down the wind speed through the mesh, causing floating snow particles to accumulate behind the fence.

Porosity: A porosity of around 40-50% is the ideal solution, allowing air to pass through while reducing wind speed.

Bottom Gap: Commonly 4-6 inch gaps allow some wind flow under the fence.

How to maintain or remove a snow fence after the season ends?

Removing and properly storing snow fences after winter can extend their lifespan. Starting from one end, cut the cable ties securing the snow fence, then use a jack or shovel to remove the temporary posts and clean the dirt off them. Store them in a dry, cool place for the next use.
