- Specification and Dimensions
Hesco barriers are manufactured through a series of processes, including steel wire processing, wire mesh panel welding, surface treatment, and geotextile liner installation.
- Steel Wire Cutting: Straighten coils of steel wire by using wire straightening machines and cut them to the required lengths. Common wire diameters are 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm. The wire features corrosion resistance and high tensile strength.
- Wire Mesh Panel Welding: Position the steel wires vertically and horizontally to ensure uniform mesh spacing, then weld them together using an automatic resistance welding machine.
- Surface Treatment: To enhance the durability of the steel wire mesh in outdoor environments, a hot-dip galvanizing process is used to create a protective coating on the surface, thereby preventing rust and corrosion.
- Geotextile Liner Installation: Secure the geotextile to the steel wire mesh using wire spiral fasteners, metal clips, or sewing.
- Assembly: Connect the modular units using connecting pins.

Hesco Bastion for Flood
Hesco bastion barrier is the ideal solution for flood control and emergency response, which are widely used to protect homes, critical infrastructure, coastlines, and wetlands.
Prefabricated units measure 36 inches wide and 48 inches high when unfolded (other sizes are also available) and can be filled with sand or loose earth to create a reliable flood defense barrier. Each unit can be extended or stacked to rapidly construct a flood defense wall in the event of sudden storms or floods.
Compared to sandbags, hesco barriers manufactured by JACKWIN save time and labor costs associated with filling. After floodwaters recede, Hesco bastions can be easily dismantled and cleaned for future use.
Hesco barriers in modular design can be quickly installed and deployed in a short time. Once filled with sand, hesco barriers are extremely sturdy and stable, capable of effectively blocking fast-flowing floodwaters and floating debris. Additionally, they can be used along riverbanks or in wetlands frequently prone to flooding.

Hesco Defensive Barrier
Hesco barriers are also frequently used for military defense, such as at military bases, checkpoints, and security perimeters, field exercises or shooting ranges.
- Collapsible design allows for easy installation and deployment, making it suitable for field military environments.
- Constructed from welded steel wire mesh and a heavy-duty geotextile liner, and filled with sand or soil, it offers high impact resistance, protecting personnel from blast pressure and flying fragments.
- Available in beige or green, it blends into the surrounding environment, making it ideal for military defense applications.
- It can be filled with soil, sand, gravel, or crushed rock – materials that are readily available in the field.
- Modular design allows for height or length adjustments as needed, and the unit is easy to transport when folded.
Hesco Barrier Installation Instructions
- Site Preparation: Select a level surface for the installation site, such as a lawn or a paved area. Clear the site of vegetation, debris, large rocks, or any obstacles that might interfere with installation.
- Layout Hesco Barrier: Fully unfold the hesco barrier units and arrange them according to the required layout. Connect the units to form a continuous protective wall or barrier. Secure the sides with connecting pins and the tops with cable ties.
- Adjust Geotextile: Fold the internal geotextile lining inward to create a seal and prevent the fill material from leaking out.
- Sand/Soil Filling: Use a loader or excavator to fill the hesco barrier with sand or soil. Ensure the material is filled evenly and compacted periodically to maintain structural stability.
- Final Inspection: After installation, inspect the hesco barrier to ensure correct alignment and secure connections between the units.

Hesco Barrier Dimensions and Structure
There are different sizes and dimensions of hesco barriers in JACKWIN, so how to choose the right sizes of hesco barriers?
Generally, MIL 1, MIL 3, and MIL 4 hesco barriers are used for flood protection. These models feature heights and widths exceeding one meter and lengths greater than 10 meters, offering superior flood defense. MIL 1, MIL 3, and MIL 7 hesco barriers are frequently used in military defense applications, where their extended lengths allow for the construction of stable, continuous protective walls.
Hesco Barrier Structure:
Hesco barrier is primarily composed of a welded steel wire mesh container, a geotextile liner, and connecting components.
Welded steel wire mesh containers are primarily made of galvanized or zinc-coated steel wire. This material is robust and durable, enabling hesco barrier to maintain its structural integrity and preventing deformation after being filled with sand.
Geotextile liner is primarily used to retain fill materials, such as sand, gravel, and soil, preventing them from escaping through the outer steel mesh.
Spiral wires and connecting pins are important components for connecting the individual hesco barrier units.
Applications
JACKWIN offers reliable hesco barriers, which are widely used for military bases, flood protection, shoreline restoration and perimeter defenses.
Hesco barrier, also named hesco bastion, is a type of prefabricated and collapsible earth-filled gabion barrier made from welded steel wire mesh and geotextile fabric liner. This type of barrier is a perfect alternative to traditional sandbags. It can be quickly installed and deployed, and when filled with soil, sand, or gravel using an excavator or loader, it creates a robust flood defense.
The price of hesco barriers is influenced by various factors, such as dimensions, model, and wire diameter. Small hesco barriers (0.6 x 0.6 x 1.2 m) cost approximately $10–$30 each, while standard MIL-series barriers (1 x 1 x 10 m) are priced at around $100–$200 each. As a manufacturer with independent production capabilities, JACKWIN offers high-quality hesco barriers at wholesale prices. Hesco barriers are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from small units (0.61m x 0.61m x 1.22m) to large ones (1m x 1.5m x 10m), and are commonly used for flood control and military defense. These modular barriers can be connected end-to-end to form longer flood control barriers, fit for large scale flood protection projects.

There are primarily two methods for dismantling hesco barriers. One involves removing the connectors between adjacent units, allowing the barriers to be reclaimed and reused. The other method entails using an excavator to tear them down forcefully, which is faster but may cause permanent damage, rendering the barriers unfit for future use.
When the metal wire mesh and geotextile lining remain in good condition and undamaged, remove the connecting pins and spiral wires from the hesco barrier and clear out the internal fill material. Then, fold the units flat for convenient transport. For large-scale flood control projects, a hesco lifting beam can be used to lift the hesco bastion vertically and shake out the soil or sand fill. Alternatively, the fill material can be removed manually after detaching the connecting pins, though this method is more time-consuming and labor-intensive.
Under normal outdoor conditions, hesco barriers have a service life of 2 to 6 years. The internal geotextile is UV-treated, offering excellent weather resistance. With proper maintenance and in a mild outdoor environment, hesco barriers can last for 5 to 15 years or even longer.
Hesco barriers for civilian use are primarily employed for flood control, emergency response, construction site protection, and residential security. Constructed from metal mesh and geotextile fabric, they are filled with earth or sand to create a robust barrier or wall. They are frequently used to meet flood protection needs in residential areas, communities, and agricultural settings, as well as for disaster emergency response.
Hesco walls can be built to the desired height by combining and stacking units. Taller walls generally require a wider base. Typically, the height of a hesco wall is twice the width of its base.
Commonly used fill materials for hesco barriers include sand, crushed stone, soil, and clayey soil. These materials are readily available, easy to compact, and offer excellent drainage, ideal for flood control and emergency projects. Large rocks, organic soil, and construction debris are unsuitable as fill materials, which may create internal voids that compromise stability, potentially damage the geotextile lining, and shorten the barrier’s service life.
