What are Water Activated Flood Barriers?
JACKWIN water activated flood barriers are primarily made of non-woven fabric and SAP filler, pre-activated with fresh water to expand, and are seamlessly stacked together to block floodwaters.
How do water activated flood barriers work?
Our barriers are mainly divided into water-absorbing and water-filled types.
Water-absorbing flood barrier: Upon contact with fresh water, the internal superabsorbent polymer material rapidly absorbs moisture and expands, increasing in volume up to 30 times, forming a sturdy wall. It also adheres tightly to the ground and to each other, blocking the advance of floodwaters.
Water-filled flood barrier: Our barriers expand their internal cavities by filling them with water, while the serrated structure forms a self-supporting structure under water pressure. The greater the water flow and the greater the filling pressure, the stronger the barrier becomes.
Water Activated Flood Barrier by Type
JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers significantly lower the barrier to flood protection, eliminating the need for heavy lifting and other physically demanding tasks, thereby saving on labor costs. If you are interested in our barriers, please email us right away.

Water Activated Flood Barriers vs Sandbags
JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers are typically used in situations that require a rapid response and where space is limited.
- Our barriers are lighter than traditional sandbags and form a seamless seal when saturated, making them highly water-resistant.
- Our barriers can be installed by a single person without the need for mechanical assistance.
- Once our barriers are discarded, the internal gel can be buried as a soil moisture retainer for farmland, causing zero pollution.
Sandbags are a traditional flood control measure, especially for large dams or open areas.
- Filling, transporting, and stacking them can take several hours.
- During the stacking process, gaps can easily form, leading to failure or collapse after prolonged exposure to floodwater.
- High disposal costs & environmental pollution: Once saturated with water, the sandbags become heavy and are easily contaminated by wastewater; cleaning them is time-consuming and labor-intensive, and they can only be disposed of as solid waste in landfills.

Sandless Sandbags for Flood Protection
JACKWIN sandless sandbags use 5-foot-long sandbags to protect garages, basements, and warehouses, and to block doorways. Our sandless sandbags offer significant advantages in terms of supply chain efficiency, total production costs, and risk management compliance.
- Logistics & Warehousing Optimization: Our compact, sandless sandbags can help your warehouse store several times more inventory than before, reduce international shipping costs per item, and optimize supply chain efficiency.
- Reduced Operational Expenditure: Without the need for heavy machinery or fill material, our barriers help you reduce labor and equipment rental costs by more than 70% and eliminate the risk of workers’ compensation claims associated with strenuous physical labor.
- Superior ROI: Designed for 3–5 years of reuse, our bags help you reduce high procurement costs and post-event waste disposal expenses.
- ESG Compliance: Our services help governments and businesses navigate rigorous environmental reviews and mitigate the risk of environmental violations.
- Risk Mitigation: Proactive flood prevention measures can provide maximum protection for a company’s assets against water damage and help the company secure more favorable premium discounts when renewing insurance policies or filing claims.

Workshop and Production
JACKWIN Factory occupies an area of 4,000 square meters and is equipped with a full range of water activated flood barrier production facilities, enabling assembly line production, including material preparation and filling, non-woven fabric cutting, packaging, and testing. Every step of our process strictly adheres to safety regulations and is conducted under sterile, professional conditions. If you would like to see a detailed video of our production process, please contact us directly.
Our SAP powder undergoes neutralization, continuous photochemical polymerization, granulation and drying, surface cross-linking and immersion screening, followed by automated filling and sealing, to achieve maximum water absorption capacity and water-holding capacity under pressure.
We use industrial-grade cutting tables to precisely cut non-woven fabric that has undergone special anti-mold and UV-resistant treatments. The fabric is then sewn using a high-strength double-stitch process to form flat, rectangular bags. This process ensures that our barriers maintain their tear resistance after being thickened.
We place the filled sandless sandbags in a completely dry environment for vacuum processing to achieve an ultra-thin profile. They are then heat-sealed to completely block out moisture from the air, preventing moisture absorption and clumping during storage.
Our factory randomly samples each batch of barriers to conduct simulated water-induced swelling tests and tensile strength tests, ensuring that the water absorption ratio and test results meet our factory standards. Our barriers ensure consistent quality in every batch.

Testimonials
JACKWIN water-absorbing flood barriers are mainly used for small-area protection, such as residential doors and windows, and garage entrances, with an average water-blocking height of no more than 10cm. They can withstand low flow velocity pressure.
JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers can provide continuous protection for several months after they swell upon contact with water, depending on environmental temperature and evaporation rate.
- Due to the complexity of its internal superabsorbent polymer material, JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers require strict storage conditions.
- They need to be stored in a dry, well-ventilated, dark place at room temperature, and at least 30cm above the ground.
- Furthermore, they need to be sealed and stacked no more than 5 layers deep to prevent the bottom layers from deforming under pressure.
Yes, JACKWIN sandless sandbags are 9 times faster than traditional sandbags at blocking floods and 4 times faster at building barriers.
We recommend using flood gates or flood doors as an effective measure to protect commercial buildings and residential communities from flooding. JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers are particularly well-suited for preventing water seepage and water damage to buildings.
Yes, JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers are designed specifically for emergency responders. They provide a seamless seal, require no logistical support, and can be operated by a single person.
JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers can absorb rainwater, muddy water, and other turbid water containing silt, sludge, and suspended particles. However, muddy water can also affect the barriers’ water absorption rate and maximum expansion capacity to some extent.
The price of JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers is primarily determined by material costs and the level of customization. The heavier and thicker the barrier, the greater the weight of the SAP filling and the larger the area of the outer fabric, resulting in a higher price. If your order requires the development of custom molds or specialized cutting and sewing, these costs should also be factored into the total price. If you are purchasing in bulk, we can offer volume discounts.

How to reinforce water-activated flood barriers to prevent flooding?
JACKWIN water-activated flood barriers primarily employ three methods—stack reinforcement, ground sealing reinforcement, and end reinforcement—to further prevent them from being washed away or floating away by water flow.
Stacking Reinforcement
Pyramid Stacking Method: Barriers are stacked in 3, 2, and 1 bags at the bottom, middle, and top, respectively, creating a trapezoidal cross-section.
Staggered Arrangement: The joints of our barriers are staggered between layers to simulate the interlocking structure of a brick wall, evenly distributing water pressure.
Interlayer Compaction: Each barrier is pressed down with pressure to eliminate gaps.
Ground Sealing and Reinforcement
Porous Ground Treatment: We need to pre-lay a plastic film on porous ground, such as concrete or brick, extending it to the top of the barrier, and then secure the bottom with a row of barriers.
Shallow Trench Anchoring: We can dig a shallow trench 10cm deep at the barrier line and embed the barrier into the trench for fixation.
End reinforcement: U-shaped surround: We need to extend barriers outwards to form a U-shape or semi-circle around openings such as doors and windows, rather than stacking them directly on the structure, to avoid pressure concentration.
Corner latches: We need to use special corner pieces or overlapping joints at corners to prevent leakage.
