Steel Material of Wheel Clamp
JACKWIN wheel clamp locks are primarily available in the following materials:
- High-strength steel:
In accordance with ASTM A29/A29M requirements, high-strength steel may be selected as either carbon steel or alloy steel as needed. Low-carbon steel is primarily used for non-structural components such as bolts. Alloy steel offers greater structural rigidity and is therefore employed for the main locking rod body, jaws, and load-bearing components of our wheel clamps.
- Stainless steel:
JACKWIN utilizes 304/316 stainless steel, typically employed in components such as wheel lock housings, lock cylinder outer sleeves, connecting parts, and pins. This material ensures smoother operation of our clamps and provides anti-drill protection for internal structures.
Cold Rolling Process
JACKWIN employs cold rolling technology to produce high-precision steel at room temperature, below the metal’s recrystallization temperature. In contrast, hot-rolled steel shrinks as it cools and has looser tolerances, but it is more convenient for processing large steel sections. Therefore, it is typically used for large-scale construction projects, while cold-rolled steel is used for the rolling process of small components.

Application of Wheel Clamps
JACKWIN offers wheel clamps with an extremely wide range of applications, suitable for tyres with diameters of 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 18 inches.
Wheel security clamps feature an adjustable opening mechanism, an arc-shaped locking arm with a flexible contact surface, and a modular telescopic frame.
Adjustable opening mechanism
A screw or ratchet mechanism can adjust the distance between the main frame and the locking arm, increasing the maximum clamping diameter.
Arc-shaped locking arm
The large-radius arc on the inner side of the lock arm, combined with rubber buffer pads, reduces the gap with the tyre while preventing point contact damage.
Modular telescopic frame
The pins or slide rails extend the length of the claw-type clamp, enhancing loading and unloading efficiency.
How to measure for a wheel clamp?
- First, check the markings on the tire sidewall; the first number indicates the tire width. If the markings are not visible, you can directly measure using a tape measure—that is, measure the widest point from one side of the tire tread to the other.
- Next, determine the rim diameter, which is the last number in the marking above. Note that most wheel locks require a certain amount of clearance from the rim edge to clamp effectively.
- Third, check the clearance around the wheels, especially the side clearance, leaving 4 to 6 inches of installation distance.

How do wheel clamps work?
JACKWIN wheel clamps feature a rigid U-shaped or C-shaped frame constructed from high-strength steel. Their specialized design securely grips the tire, creating three points of contact: the inner wall of the tire, the outer sidewall, and the bottom of the frame’s locking arm, which presses tightly against the ground and the locking mechanism.
- Our wheel clamps utilize hardened steel cylinder locks or disc locks.
- If the driver starts the engine and releases the parking brake, the locked wheels will not turn due to the clamp’s secure hold. Attempting to drive under these conditions will cause the vehicle to shake violently or even lift off the ground, potentially damaging the locking device, tires, and suspension system.

Wheel Clamp vs Steering Wheel Lock

Wheel clamps are a type of administrative enforcement measure used for fines or long-term private anti-theft purposes.
Advantages
- No need to open the car door for installation, easy to use.
- High durability, difficult to break.
- Wide range of applications.
- One set of keys can fit multiple wheel clamps.
Disadvantages
- Heavy and bulky, making transportation difficult.
- As an enforcement tool, it tends to provoke resistance.
Steering wheel locks are primarily used for daily temporary theft prevention by placing them over the steering wheel to disable it.
Advantages
- Lightweight and easy to carry.
- Suitable for daily personal security use.
Disadvantages
- Easily dragged away using a tow truck.
- Vulnerable to violent destruction with low cost of damage.
Workshop and Production
JACKWIN Factory possesses full-process wheel clamp locks production equipment, enabling assembly line manufacturing. We support custom logos, patterns, and colors. If you’d like to learn more about Metal forming, heat treatment, and surface corrosion protection processes of our wheel clamps, send us an email, and we’ll address your questions.
This is our cold-forming process. JACKWIN utilizes hydraulic pipe benders to control the springback of metal tubes, ensuring precise curvature and enabling wheel clamps to conform perfectly to tires.
This is our hot-bending process. JACKWIN bends high-strength steel after heating it to 800-900°C, then quenches it to enhance its strength for large quantities of components without much precision.
This is our heat treatment process. JACKWIN employs processes such as quenching, tempering, carburizing, and stress-relief annealing to treat lock beams, lock cores, and springs.
This is our surface treatment process. JACKWIN primarily employs powder coating for the exterior finish of wheel clamps, while components undergo electrogalvanizing for corrosion protection.

If the parking lot has the authority to charge fees, or if traffic police have the legal right to collect fees.
- Preparatory steps: Ensure the vehicle is turned off and stationary without slipping. Measure the wheel size and select the appropriate drive wheel.
- Unlock the locking mechanism to ensure the clamps can extend and retract freely.
- Position the lock’s fixed arm on the inner side of the tire.
- Wrap the movable arm around the outer side of the tire, securing it over the top of the tread and downwards.
- Clamp the tire firmly, ensuring the lock body fits snugly against the tire with no noticeable wobble.
- Insert the key into the lock cylinder to lock it.
